Ready to move on from cross stitch kits?

Cross stitch kits are fabulous! They have everything you need in one place, which makes getting into cross stitch really accessible.

But now you've got a little experience under your belt, you might be ready to graduate to the wide world of PDF patterns. Where the choice of design is endless and you can always find the perfect pattern for the occasion or mood.

We know the idea of gathering your own supplies can feel a bit daunting at first, but don’t worry—we’ve got your back! Here’s a quick guide to help you get started.

How to Gather Your Supplies

Pick Your Fabric
Choose your fabric count - 14 count Aida is a great choice for beginner). Make sure to pick a piece that’s big enough to leave a border around the edges (at least 5cm on each side). Your pattern will include measurements for different fabric counts, so check that carefully.

Choose Your Threads
Each pattern will come with a thread key listing the DMC number codes for the colours you need. Just select the colour threads corresponding to the key, and you’re good to go!

Extras You Might Need
You’ll need a sharp pair of scissors, a needle (a size 26 tapestry needle is perfect for 14 count Aida), and maybe a hoop to keep your fabric nice and taut. We highly recommend Nurge hoops—they’re sturdy and work wonderfully for holding your fabric in place.
